I didnât know if Deklin was more pissed at me because of what had happened between us after Absinthe or because of what hadnât happened. Iâd used my hand to get him off after heâd gone down on me, and then weâd fallen asleep on the couch together. When Iâd woken up sometime after midnight, he was gone. No note, but I hadnât really expected one.
I had, however, hoped that he wouldnât be weird about things when Iâd seen him again yesterday morning. That hadnât been the case, though, and Iâd known it the moment Iâd walked into the restaurant. He hadnât looked at me, and he certainly hadnât spoken to me. Iâd done my own avoiding, preventing Jude from getting me alone. I definitely hadnât wanted to tell him what had happened between Deklin and me.
In all honesty, I was ashamed. We might not have had intercourse, but it had been sexual. And Jude was paying me for it. Iâd crossed a line Iâd promised myself I wouldnât, and I didnât know how to handle it.
When the three of us had parted ways last night, Iâd half-expected Jude to call me to tell me not to bother coming to the airport for the flight to Vegas, but he hadnât, so Iâd followed the original plan.
When Iâd arrived a few minutes ago, heâd been pleased to see me. Deklin, on the other hand, still wouldnât look at me. If this happened every time we touched, Judeâs plan was doomed.
Unless, of course, Deklinâs guilt made him confess the infidelity to his fiancée, and she broke up with him because of it. Maybe that would be best for everyone. It would hurt them both, I knew, but the truth might be worse. And this way, I wouldnât have to keep up with the charade until I got in so deep that I couldnât live with myself anymore.
I was an awful, selfish person.
âHave a seat anywhere you like,â Jude said as I stepped inside the plane. âMonte will stow your bags for the trip.â
I nodded, trying not to look like a gawking child as I moved into the main cabin. It wasnât a massive plane, but it was far from tiny. Plush individual seats and tables, a long bench-like seat against one wall that looked more comfortable than my second-hand couchâ¦
Thoughts of the couch brought back the other night, and my face heated. I needed to stop thinking about it, but I couldnât get it out of my head. Iâd never come so hard in my life, and the fact that itâd happened under these circumstances just made the guilt worse.
It wasnât only guilt for manipulating Deklin into cheating on his girlfriend, but for enjoying it. Not the manipulation part. I wasnât that far gone, at least. But Iâd enjoyed the physical part of it more than I liked. What sort of person was I if I could get off like that?
I buckled myself into one of the individual seats and looked out the window until we took off.
